Prior to discovering that control userpasswords2 should NOT be used on XP
Home to change a user group to Power Users... I tried to do it... it did
indeed give me the error messages below... which I cut from another post...
the user's group was not changed... but now, the user name does not appear in
the list of users in control userpasswords2... it also does not appear in the
list of accounts in User Accounts... the account is still valid and the user
can logon to it... so... is there any way to repair the damage created by
this situation... the user needs to be changed to an administrator but I can
find no way to access the userid to make the change... I could always define
a new account and move thier files... but I will not be able to delete the
old userid or even lock the account if I can't see it.

control userpasswords is what should be used with XP Home, *not* control
userpasswords2!
Power Users group are not supported by WinXP Home, so one should not try to
assign such privileges to an existing account, or else errors will appear.
Such as:
[[The user could not be added because the following error has occurred, The
group name could not be found: When creating a new user and make it member
of the 'Power Users' group.]]
[[The group membership for <ComputerName\UserName> could not be updated :
When updating an existing user, adding him to the 'Power Users group'. ]]
