Running DSL and Dial-up on the Same Computer

I am running Verizon DSL and ATT Worldnet
on the same computer.
(1) Using Eudora with two accounts for my e-mail..
(2) Using two instances of Agent for my news.
(3) Using Internet Explorer 6.0 (one instance.)

My question pertains to (3). With both dialup and
DSL connected, I am not sure what I am seeing here.
It appears that, as long as dialup is connected, the
browser reverts to dialup. When dialup is shut down
or disconected, the browser goes to DSL. Also when
changes are made, I see a "detecting proxy settings"
message.
Are things getting confused by this setup, in which
case please suggest another. Or if this is OK, please
explain what is happening and whatever options I
may have to prioritize dialup or DSL when both are
connected.
Thanks very much,
Frank

That is the way my system works. If I just boot up, I am connected via
my cable modem. If I then dial up my dial up ISP, the system switches
to the dial up connection. If I disconnect the dial up, it switches
back to the cable modem connection.

I think your setup is OK. No problem with two E-Mail accounts, one for
Verizon and one for the dial up account. You need two New Group Agents
because many ISPs will not allow connection to a News Group server
from a different ISP. So, you need to use two SMTP servers, one for
Verizon and one for the dial up.

Good luck, jimbo

Depends on the news server (MSNews can use any ISP connection, Your ISP's
news and SMTP server will only connect if you are using their connection).
The other thing you can do is use a public SMTP server like yahoo where you
can use either dial-up or DSL and you don't have to worry which is connected
since you set your email account to log on to Yahoo SMTP server with that
username and password. This would give you a third email address but you may
not be able to receive emails from your DSL account while on dial-up or from
your dial-up account while on DSL. I have one ISP where I can receive from
their POP3 account while on DSL/opositions dial-up but I can't connect to my
other ISP's POP3 server when I use their opositions dial-up account.

And as far as web browsing goes - dial-up takes presidence which is a pain
because on dial-up networking I connect to remote computers and can't use
the Internet - You have the same problem - the traffic is routed through the
dial-up connection but it is an ISP therefore the Internet still works but
slower.
