Running Caesar II in XP.

I can play Caesar II in XP o.k. it's just when I start a new city it crashes.
It asks me to type in the name of the city and then doesn't do anything...it stays on the map screen.
I try and close the game and it ask me again to type in the city name and I do and then the game closes.
I have updated all my drivers and have closed all background software.
Any idea what might be causing this?

There doesn't seem to be much support / interest
in Caesar II anymore since Caesar III came out. :-s
