Assuming you have the MS Windows XP distribution CDROM is in the "D:" drive, you can open a
Command Prompt then copy and paste the following command line to restore the file
RUNDLL32.EXE...

extract /y d:\i386\rundll32.ex_ %windir%\rundll32.exe

hi

boot from cd-rom xp when the setup prompts for repair with recovery
console
press R
you will get commant prompt dos like ex: c:\window\>

type d:\ where d =cd rom drive my assumption yours can be e:\
or f:\ if more partions are created, dont ask me what is partions that
is a different subject.

type d:\ cd\i386 where i386 contains the setup files for winxp
if its in sub folder change location ex: cd\windowsxp\i386
type d:\i386\>expand rundll32.ex_ c:\windows\system32

it will show files extracted status after completion REBOOT

problem solved ok................

Instructions are more complicated than needed. There is NO reason to "...boot from cd-rom
xp when the setup prompts for repair with recovery console"

The file can be extracted from within Windows !

I'm not taking my clothes off even if it is hot, hot, hot here in the
Southern Hemisphere!!

(You meant '...so bear with me.' I believe!)

Cheers,
