C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe Application not found

HP Laptop running Windows XP Pro was infected. I have cleaned it and it now
boots to the Desktop. The above error, or something similar, appears when
ever I try to do some thing. eg RMC on My computer and click Properties. When
running some programs it asks which program to run it with. The rundll32.exe
file was not missing but I replaced it anyway. Restarted but to no avail.
My feeling is that some basic path is corrupted or missing.
Any suggestions?

I had exactly the same problem following a virus/spyware issue - that I resolved with Norton and Spyhunter. Saved the 2 files to my desktop and when I open the programs I previously had a problem with - they open perfectly :)

Just wanted to share this with other users so they know it worked.

Safe surfing everyone ....
