Hi,
First manually isolate the cause, then address it. To do so, before you try
to shutdown, hit ctrl+shift+escape and end all running applications. Then
try shutting down - does it help? If so, then the problem is one of the
applications, you will need to experiment a bit to figure out which one it
is. If not, then repeat and this time go to the processes tab, start killing
some of them manually (start with antivirus program processes, you'd be
surprised how often they are the culprit). Repeat until you find which is
causing the rundll32.exe error (which, incidentally, is just the messenger,
not the cause). Don't worry too much about critical system processes as it
will not allow you to stop anything that is essential to normal operation.
