Rule to Move messages rather than creating a copy

I have set up a rule to put certain sent messages into a specific folder. But
the best I can get Outlook to do is create a copy of the message. How do I
move either move the 'original' sent message, or run a rule that deletes the
'original' from the sent items box without deleting the copy?

You have the rule to move a copy of sent emails to your specified folder.
That is good.

To stop having a duplicate in Sent Items do the following:
Tools > Options > E-mail options > Untick Save copies of emails in Sent Items

Thanks, but I do want to leave some messages in my sent mails folders. I only
want to move certain sent messages out of that folder.

Outlook doesn't have a "move to" clause for the sent mail rule type. It
only has it for the receive rule type (the "move a copy to" clause is
just an over-wordy "copy to" clause). I use OL2002 and have wished on a
few occasions that Outlook had this clause for rules on sent items.

Try creating a second rule.

First rule:
move a copy to Sent Items except when your criteria is met

Second rule:
move a copy to specified folder when criteria is met

Untick Save copies of emails in Sent Items
