RPC Restart WITHOUT Blaster Worm

For about the last week, I've been getting Restart
messages from 1 minute to several hours after bringing up
my DSL connection (which sort-of opens some ports). The
message in the error log is "Service Control Manager The
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated
unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following
corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds:
Reboot the machine." This happens so often that I cannot
keep XP up to gather info. I enabled the Firewall which
eliminated the problem. I have had the Microsoft patch
installed for some time. I have run Norton and even
downloaded and executed the Blaster Worm Fix from Norton.
ALL TO NO AVAIL. As far as I can tell, I do not have the
Worm on my machine. If I let down the Firewall it again
happens within minutes (usually). Any help would be
appreciated!!!

You also need to cleanse your machine with the *latest* antivirus updates.
Sounds like you use the Norton software and you should visit their website
to get this update and then run it on your computer to clean it. Details &
link to the website can be found at

Also, You should *always* keep your firewall on. Why you would like to turn
the firewall off?
The firewall protects you from this and future attacks. You should always
have it enabled on the network interface that is connected to the internet.
