NT AUTHORITY message problem

A couple times when I have been online, a window popped
up that said "Windows must restart because the Remote
Procedure Call (RPC) service was terminated
unexpectedly" It says this was initiated by NT Authority
System. I ran FixBlast, but it did not find the Blaster
worm. What else could it be?
I've also had trouble with signing on to the internet,
and problems with my internet settings being changed. I
want to stop my computer from being remotely accessed.
How do I do this?

You need to enable a firewall -
Either the XP ICF or intstall and configure a
third-party firewall like Zone Alarm -
You also need to get a new Anti Virus Program
installed and updated and scan your system for viruses.
You also need to get all critical Windows Updates installed.
And you should install and update and scan your system with
an Anti Spyware program.

I tried all that. My computer won't let me install
anything "important", including anti-virus and updates.
What file names should i be checking for in my system
services or tasks?

What exactly do you mean that your computer will not
let you install anything important?

Sounds to me like it is time for you to seriously consider
formatting your hard drive and doing a clean install of XP
and starting from scratch. If you connect to the Internet with
a broadband connection such as DSL or Cable, then physically
disconnect that connection before the format and clean install.
Once XP is installed again, purchase a new AV program and
Firewall program and have them both installed and functioning
before ever connecting to the Internet and then when you do
connect to the Internet, immediately go to the Windows Update
site and install all critical updates and then update your AV program
and your Firewall program and scan your system for viruses.
Also add an Anti Spyware program to that list.
And continue to keep all security entities up to date.
I have been running XP Pro for over a year now and have followed
such guidelines and have never had a problem with viruses and or
spyware. The Internet is a wonderful tool for gathering information
and connecting to people, but it can also be a very dangerous
environment if you venture into it without adequate protection.

As a last note, if you are using a broadband connection, then you
should seriously consider purchasing a router and put it between
your cable modem and your computer.
