Router ... Netgear/Linksys/D-Link?

Hi:

This may seem an odd request but since my computer is in my living
room how equipment looks is an issue.

I'm thinking of getting a router to get a hardware firewall and
connect two WinXP HE computers to each other and to the internet via
an Alcatel SpeedTouch ADSL external modem (10Mb/s service).
Printer sharing isn't really an issue since each box has its own
printer and scanner.
My main computer Asus P4T533-C has an on-board Intel® 82562ET PHY LAN
and the secondary box has a D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 PCI NIC.

I need it to be configured and run as simply as possible.
I don't need wireless and can run the cable without any problem.
Price isn't really an issue but ease of use, reliability and looks
are.

I have a Lian Li aluminum box. The Netgear routers look like they
would match nicely. The Linksys ones seem popular but I find them
ugly. D-Link seem to be a step down in quality to the above two.

Any recommendations?

Linksys is pretty solid, in my experience - but im sure they all work fine,
and probably all have the same chipset inside :)

Some of them have better web configuration tools - linksys is pretty good,
netgear - dunno , dlink, the one i had before was kinda iffy... my smc sux
huge.

Netgear all the way. They usually have a longer warranty
on their routers. I used to have Linksys but a port would
blow out every 3 to 6 months. Linksys kept sending another
one, but after three I went with Netgear (MR814) (RP614 if
you dont want wireless) and I have no problems with it.

For security reasons my company would only allow me to
use a Linksys G router. So that is why I use it.

Nice thing about LinkSys is that they are a Cisco Company, which is an IT industry standard. I have the same wireless access point/router that Diane owns and am quite happy with it's user interface.

Aren't they the people who are periodically pushing adverts through to your
computers through their hardware?
