Roadrunner e-mail being received on AOL account

G

Guest

Since 11/4 people who send me e-mails to my Roadrunner address receive an
error that the message couldn't be delivered to ****@aol.com. I haven't had
that aol account in 10 years! I went to aol and reactivated that account so
I can receive e-mails but I still can't send from my Windows mail account
with Roadrunner.

Can anyone explain this or give me a fix???

Thanks!

As a current RR customer, I don't know why that would be happening.
Were you a former Adelphia customer?

Regarding your receiving problem, it sounds like something at
Roadrunner is configured to forward your incoming email to AOL.

Regarding your sending problem, do you get an error message when
you try? If so, right-click on it, copy, then paste it into a reply here.

The host 'smtp-server.columbus.rr.com' could not be found. Please verify that
you have entered the server name correctly.

No, I have never been an Adelphia customer.

The first error message pertains to sending. What is peculiar is that your
PC can't even find the server 'smtp-server.columbus.rr.com'. I know the
server name is correct, and I have verified that the server is up and running.
Are you able to surf to various websites on that PC? Have you rebooted
recently?

Assuming there is some sort of DNS failure, let's try this test: Go to Tools,
Accounts, select the account, Servers, and replace smtp-server.columbus.rr.com
with "71.74.56.22" (without the quotes). Does it work now?

Regarding the second error message, which pertains to receiving,
there is a sentence or two missing just before the portion you supplied.

We don't have any trouble connecting to the internet or getting on web sites.
I tried the number instead of the smtp name. This is the error message I
received:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

Well, we're making progress. At least your email client is talking to
the mail server now. Try this:
Change the SMTP port to 587 (instead of 25). This change can be
made on the Advanced tab of the Properties screen of that account.
Then go to the Servers tab and select the box for "My server requires
authentication."

I don't think there is anything wrong on your end.
Something about your account is not set up properly on the
Roadrunner mail server. This is evident not only from the strange
sending failure, but also the fact that when others email you
it gets forwarded to an AOL account! You need to do some heavy
leaning on Roadrunner tech support. They need to reset or rebuild
the account.

Make sure, too, that email forwarding to AOL isn't turned on by logging in to your account on roadrunner webmail, and clicking on Settings, then on the Forwarding link. If you see an aol email address in the space provided, delete it, tick off Disable Forwarding and click on OK.

This is what it says now:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'test
2:34 am', Account: 'Tom & Cynthia Scott', Server: '71.74.56.22', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '550 Invalid recipient:
<[email protected]>', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

:

Well, we're making progress. At least your email client is talking to
the mail server now. Try this:
Change the SMTP port to 587 (instead of 25). This change can be
made on the Advanced tab of the Properties screen of that account.
Then go to the Servers tab and select the box for "My server requires
authentication."

We don't have any trouble connecting to the internet or getting on web sites.
I tried the number instead of the smtp name. This is the error message I
received:

:

The host 'smtp-server.columbus.rr.com' could not be found. Please verify that
you have entered the server name correctly.
Subject 'test 2:34 am', Account: 'Tom & Cynthia Scott', Server:

Account: 'Tom & Cynthia Scott', Server: 'pop-server.columbus.rr.com',

Regarding your receiving problem, it sounds like something at
Roadrunner is configured to forward your incoming email to AOL.

Regarding your sending problem, do you get an error message when
you try? If so, right-click on it, copy, then paste it into a reply here.

Thanks!

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

Hey! I did this and the forward was to the AOL account. That is so strange.
Thank you so much! Now if I can get the "send" to work I should be OK.

Make sure, too, that email forwarding to AOL isn't turned on by logging in to your account on roadrunner webmail, and clicking on Settings, then on the Forwarding link. If you see an aol email address in the space provided, delete it, tick off Disable Forwarding and click on OK.

Your symptoms don't fit the typical interference we see from antivirus
programs, but I have to ask, which antivirus program are you running?
If it is McAfee or Norton, uninstall those, reboot, then try sending again.

HERE IS THE EXAMPLE AND FOLLOW IT ACCORDINGLY. YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE RESOLVED.
ANOTHER SURE FIRE WAY IT WILL BE RESOLVED IS KEEP CALLING THE ISP THAT YOU
ARE PAYING FOR AND GET A TIER 3 TECHNICIAN:

EXAMPLE OF HOW TO ENTER THE SMTP IN WINDOWS MAIL:

FIRST GO TO ADD ACCOUNT AND THEN....

you will CHANGE the city and/or state to yours:

EX:

pop-server.____________.rr.com is the POP3 (INCOMING MAIL)
smtp-server.___________.rr.com is the SMTP (OUTGOING MAIL)
