RIS windows XP SP2

I have been deploying windows XP with SP1a successfully with no problems
appart from some teething trouble in the beggining which seemed to be
resolved with service packs for my RIS 2K server, it is also used for windows
2k installs too.

I have just added a new xp base with sp2 image on my server after a couple
of problems with the driver not being available i found a patch and just put
the sys and inf for the drivers in the i386 (we use intel gig nics in our
custom hardware builds and broadcom gig nics in the DELL GX280's). This
afternoon i successfully got my new fully unattended image onto the Dell
GX280, Latitude D600 laptop and the custom build intel. All seemed well
until i tried to run the office install from our installer accross the
network. There was an error cant remember what it was now but when i looked
in the services i found the computer browser service was not started when i
tried to start it got a depenency error so tried to start the dependant which
was sever and workstation services, server started but the workstation
errored. I am sure the problem lies here as i can get internet and intranet
also resolve dns names to ips and ping the installer server. Also if i try
to join the domain the option is greyed out.

Does anyone have a clue what is going on?

Pantz1,

Have you tried the Microsoft webcasts? They have some great archived
ones that address questioins like yours. I am sorry I don't know which ones,
but it only takes a few minutes to find the ones of intrest to you. Best of
luck.

The greyed out option to join a domain is a clue. If you check your network
properties, you'll find that no network card exists. The text mode driver
works to pull down the image from the RIS server, but the oem driver is not
working, so no nic is detected during the installation.

I had a similar problem with the SX280, which wasn't resolved until I
downloaded the latest driver from Intel, as well as a RIS-specific inf file,
which I got from here:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scr...strState=LIVE&PrdMap=prd38&DwnldID=6760&agr=N

Hope it helps.
Mike
