RIS and Driver Issue - Dell\Intel

Hello,

Very very long story short, RIS is not silent during the XPsp2 instllation
of my company's new laptop standard - the Dell Latitude model D620. During
the install, the Dell\Intel driver for the Intel 945GM video chipset causes
the "New Found Hardware" wizard to pop up two times. Each wizard stays on the
screen for about 5 minutes then automatically go away and the install
continues. If you say "no" or cancel the NHF wizard, a message pops up
briefly saying that the Plug and Play monitor has found and loaded the proper
dirver. Our RIS install by the way is not an "image" install, rather it is a
CD (i386) folder install on the RIS server that is configured using the
remboot.sif file. This file points the install process to where the drivers
located. This exact same .sif file and RIS i386 load works perfectly for Dell
D600 and D610 models which both have ATI video. The problem is the Dell\Intel
driver.

I spent 3 FULL days with Microsoft support on this, including escelation
engineers and they have concluded that it is undoubtedly a driver issue.
There should be NO Hardware wizard popus during a RIS install. Even when
doing a hand install of this driver, the NFH wizard pops up 2x.

Microsoft suggested to me that I should take this up with Dell and\or Intel.
I contacted Dell Gold Support over a week ago and they have escelated the
issue to their engineers. I have sent numerous emails to my Gold support
contact which all go unanswered.
I have also emailed (e-mail address removed) (because you aren't allowed
to speak to a human about Intel graphics), and they have told me that their
drivers are not supported for RIS installatioins.

So I'd like to ask a couple of questions:
Q1) Do I have any other recourse other than letting my RIS installs sit (or
I manually cancel the NFH wizard) for 10 minutes while they are doing nothing?
2) Since the Intel 945GM chipset is on the HCL, doesn't that mean that the
vendor or mfgr HAS to write a compliant driver for ALL Microsoft applications?

If anyone have any thoughts, I'd really appreciate your take on what I am
dealing with. Thanks! -=gu=-

Sorry but I cannot help you with RIS. I am building a Sysprep Image and I am
having issues (fits) with this driver on D620 & D420 laptops. I am in the
process of escalating with Dell, but now I am not so hopeful. If you have
found anything out I would appreciate hearing.

When I am able to get the installer from Dell working correctly (during
troubleshooting) I too get the FNH popups...the are for PnP Monitors.
regardless of how i handle it the system just sits for a while seemingly
idle. It does work eventually. This is the best I can get. Usually
everything fails because one portion of the driver install failed and the
driver is stuck on uninstalling.

I would really like to give more detail, but it won't help you any and I
doubt anyone else can help either at this point. I continue to test
different scenarios to tray and get this to work. If I find anything useful,
I will post. Good Luck.
