RIS fails with updated display drivers

Hi

I have win2003 RIS server building winXP clients.
One of the install images I have is for a Dell SX280.
This uses Intel 82915G express display adapter.

I have had a successfull build using the Dell supplied drivers, but a recent
problem with graphics not displaying properly in word 2003 prompted me to get
a newer set of drivers.

This I did and replaced the old ones in the RIS image.

Now the RIS build stops when adding hardware and the screen goes blank.
If I revert back to the older drivers all is well again. I can then update
the drivers after the build has finnished.

Anyone have any idea why the drivers will not work during RIS but will work
manually in Windows?

Thanks
M

I have seen other people report similar problems. You may want to check the
KB article at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883667. The hotfix
referenced by this article may resolve your problem.

Hi

The hotfix you mention is for windows XP. How can I apply the hotfix to a
RIS image? I presume this is a fix applied after install?

Thanks for any further help.

Hi

The file mentioned in the article: Newdev.dll I can not seem to find it
anywhere on the RIS server, any idea how I update a file that isn't there?

Are you using RIPREP or RISETUP? If using RISETUP, the file is most likely
on the server as NEWDEV.DL_. If using RIPREP, the file is buried inside the
image.

If using RISETUP, you would want to integrate the hotfix into the source
files (using UPDATE.EXE /INTEGRATE) then use that integrated/slipstreamed
source directory to refresh the contents on the RIS server.

If using RIPREP, you could either rebuild the image from that
integrated/slipstreamed source, or apply the hotfix before running RIPPREP
to create a new image.

Hi

Have searched all the hard discs of the server and can't find NEWDEV.DL_
I would guess it should be in the i386 directory, but have searched the
whole disc to be sure. Do you know where it should be, I'll make a visuall
search.

I am using risetup. MS is closed here in the UK and it is a public holiday.
so can not contact them until next Tuesday.

Hi

Found the file. I copied and pasted from your post and searched for NEWDEV.DL_
Then tried newdev.dl_ and there it is in the i386 directory.

So will wait until Tuesday to call MS. Hope the hotfix fixes it.

Thanks for your help.
