Hi,

I'm trying to install XP SP1 via RIS
I'm using a slipstreamed SP1 image.
The setup portion of the server is ok but when the client
start it hangs reading from the server

I sniffed the network with ehtereal filtering TFTP
and I discovered that the files searched from the PXE PC are:

txtsetup.si_
bootfont.bi_
drvmain.sd_
etc...

while in the image there are only the expanded versions of many files

txtsetup.sif
ecc...

the TFTP client is unable to get the right file from the server and times
out
after several minutes and several retry, the client tryes to get the right
file.
But as you can understand, five minutes for each file, multiplied for some
thousand of files...

any ideas??
thanx
giorgio

and it's the same with a new XP pro SP2 slipstreamed directly from
microsoft.

Hi,
I would like to confirm that you do have 2 images on your RIS Server, (yes)
1) the flat cd image
2) the slipsream xpsp1 image that you would need to add
-->then direc clients to xpsp1 image
just a fundamental troubleshoot question..

Best Regards
joel

Joel,

I have only one image with SP2 for now
I have deleted all the ris folder
running riprep recreated all the original structure
then i recreated the image with SP2 from a original microsoft oem cd

I cant understand where the ris reads the list of files needed by client
and why the doesn't match

thanx,
hope u'll be ad MVP one day ;-)
