RIS default image installs XP SP2 not SP1

Hello. I'm really confused. When first installing RIS, when it asks for the
default OS files to use as the first image, I pointed RIS Setup to a network
share containing XP with SP1 slipstreamed. However, if I build a new PC from
scratch using this first image, XP Service Pack 2 gets installed.

I'm really confused as to how this happens! Does the default RIS image use
Automatic Updates while it's installing XP to download and install SP2? How
can I prevent this behaviour? Any other ideas how my client machine is
getting SP2 when the source files are definitely just SP1?

You'll need that "default OS file" image to be at the same SP level as the
images you deploy. So if you are going to deploy Windows XP SP2, then
you'll want to rerun RISETUP and give it a slipstreamed Windows XP SP2 CD
(then delete the old SP1 directory).

Hello. Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it doesn't solve the issue, but I
have found the solution!

The issue appeared to be having a path name that was too long for the XP SP1
source files. Here is the folder layout on the file server:
\Source (customised XP with SP1 slipstreamed)
\Source2 (customised XP with SP2 slipstreamed)
\WinXP\<long pathname>\XP (fresh XP source files, no SP)
\WinXP\<long pathname>\SP1 (just SP1 source files)
\WinXP\<long pathname>\XPSP1 (fresh XP source files, with SP1 slipstreamed.
I pointed RIS to this folder)

Somehow RIS got confused with the long pathnames and decided it would
install the "Source2" folder instead. Was very strange!

Anyway, the issue was resolved by renaming the folders in the long paths to
make them much shorter. Now it's all OK! XP + SP1 for my master image.

Cheers

Rob
