RIS copies files up to PC very slowly

I am using RIS to load XP Pro onto a new system. The RIS
server is a Windows 2003 Server. The initial file copy
part of Windows Setup (Text based setup) is extremely
slow. The PXe boot is quite fast, but as soon as the
system switches over to SMB for the file transfer, it
slows down to a crawl. I can load the setup off of
diskette far faster than RIS is doing it.

Any ideas? I haven't found anything in Technet (go
figure!) nor any references using other search engines.

When you say slow to do a RIS of XP, how slow do you mean?

Are you on a 10mb network?

Are you RISing across routers?

Do machines on the same subnet as the RIS server behave the same way?

What nics are on your clients? All the same?

am seeing this issue too - though only on 4006s, we are seeing n
problems on a 2900 in our test lab. the difference in speed mean
instead of maybe taking 30/40 mins, it takes up to three hours. so i
would appear to me to be a switch config issue.

I have just replaced a W2000 RIS server with a W2003 RIS Server and a
mentioned above it is very slow.

We are using Cisco 3548 switches.

Anyone had any further ideas

To see if this is a switch/router issue, connect the client to a hub,
connect the RIS server to the same hub, and connect the hub to the switch.
