help please, i run windows xp, have a couple of programs which look after xp
only. i have lost the function to send to desktop in the right click menu,
also i have heaps more option in the menu than usual. it also takes a long
time to bring up the menu after pushing the right click. could these programs
have altered the registry to cause this problem? any ideas to fix it would be
appreciated, cheers

Try this...

Start | Run | Type: sendto | Click OK |
When the window opens | Right click in the right hand pane |
New | Shortcut | Browse button | click the Desktop icon | OK |
Next button | Type: Desktop (create shortcut) | Finish button

If that doesn't work, try this.

Click Start, Run and type:

REGSVR32 SENDMAIL.DLL

Restart Windows.
from...
Send To Desktop (create shortcut) command does nothing

348. Send To Desktop (Create Shortcut) Fix

xp_sendtodesktop.vbs is the file that you want.

[[To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive
(you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double click the vbs
file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this
is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These
scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System
Registry.]]
