right click-->Windows Explorer connects to internet

N

N.O. Body

Just recently, within the last 3-4 days, I've noticed that whenever I
right-click on a file, Zone Alarm warns me that Windows Explorer wants to
connect to the internet. I don't remember this coming up before.

On the off chance that I had picked up some spyware, I've run AdAware,
Spybot S&D, CWShredder, and HijackThis without finding any problems. Also
AV scan did not find any virus. Even tried Trojan Hunter without results.

Anyone noticed the same problem? Or is it a problem?

By any chance, have u installed/updated Zone Alarm? or installed third-party shell utils?

There were some issues - eror "problem sending command to explorer" if you right-click a folder > search [while explorer internet access is blocked in ZA]

This one?

After updating to the January 7th or 8th virus definitions, your computer slows down and Microsoft Word and Excel will not start: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2004010810205113

I have exactly the same trouble with my home computer. It always comes up when
right clicking a file or directory then WINDOWS EXPLORER tries to access the
net. Sometimes the whole system will hang for maybe 30 seconds before ZONE
ALARM kicks in and tells me what's going on.

I've run:

ADAWARE 6
SPYBOT
SPYSWEEPER
NAV
SYSTEM SUITE
all the SYGATE SCANS

and manually cleaned all sorts of junk out of the registry, all with no luck
at all. The best I can manage is to set Zapro to not let WINDOWS EXPLORER
access the net at all and make sure it asks me before allowing any other
activity.

This has been a problem for months now so if you ever figure this out please
let me know.

* incidentally I'm using 98 and have the same problem so I doubt it's the XP
os.

This is the probably cause for the problem. Allow Explorer access the internet or follow the ZoneLabs forums advice here:

Also, please drop me a mail on this if you can. [[email protected]]
