Hello. I installed SP2 onto my Windows XP Pro system. I can no
longer check folder properties. The right-click on folders does
nothing.

I heard about the solution of running ShellExView and turning off
selective entries. Tried that. Tried turning them all off. With
various combinations of reboots. Doesn't work. Does nothing.

I heard about the solution of un-installing IIS, then re-installing
IIS. That worked -- for a few days -- then it went back to doing
nothing.

I can't keep un-installing IIS, or going into Safe mode, or doing any
other "trick". Please, get my Windows XP to work again.

(I'm having some other less serious problems where some of my games
suddenly insist on being an administrator when they're launched. I
can wait, for now, on a solution to this problem).

No, I do not, nor have I ever had DivX on my machine. I think I may
have found the problem, though. See other post. Thanks.

There's a good chance that problem is solved.

It turns out that once a folder fails to display its properties, that
folder is "hosed" until something resets (like in a reboot). So,
turning things on and off in ShellExView makes little difference if
you keep checking the same folder.

Once I checked a different folder each time, I stumbled across the
ShellExView item that was causing a problem: IIS Shell Extension as
shown below. When this puppy was disabled (and I rebooted) all
folders happily show their properties.

I hope this helps some folks because it was quite a bit of effort to
solve.

Joe -

Many thanks for posting this. I've had the same problem since
installing SP2 & thought I'd go crazy looking for a solution. After
reading your post, I disabled IIS Shell Extension, rebooted & suddenly
all was right with the world.

Thanks again for sharing this.
