Revving noise

Hi.
When playing "Luxor: Amun Rising" or "Drop", my computer begins to rev up or
at least makes a sound as if an engine is gearing up to its peak. The sound
increases (seems to be either working harder or faster) until I quit the
game. After the game is closed, the sound slowly winds down and then, normal
sounds are heard.

Since these games don't have as much movement or animation as any of the
action or war games, I'm wondering
1) what this is
2) why it's happening
3) what to do about it (besides getting more advanced games....!!)

As your computer heats up the fans may be trying to compensate by
spinning faster, and the faster they spin the louder they get, meaning
your computer is getting too hot.

The first thing to do is to open the case and clean out the dust and
debris. When you close the case, be sure to fold the wires and cables in
a manner that won't impede the airflow inside your computer.

If that doesn't help, you should wonder if either one or more of the
fans needs to be replaced.

Less likely -- but still possible:

The fans inside your case may be working just fine, but they're noisy.
These fans often get noisier as they get older.

Your hard drive may also be spinning harder as the game reads from and
writes to the hard disk. If your hard disk is the source of the noise
you get it replaced and soon.

Thank you very much Ted. I'll try all of your suggestions. But first, to back
up my stuff. But that's another newsgroup!!
Merci! I'll try to remember to post what worked! re the noise. It's only
less than 2 years old. But that's human years....not computer yrs.

Thanks for the idea Greenie, however, the games are installed on the hd. I'm
backing up my files, and moved all data to partition D (D drive) and left all
of the programs on partition C (C drive). I'm removing unnecessary and unused
programs...and NOT playing those games!
I haven't opened the computer yet to see if anything is caught or clean it
out. I think Ted's answer of >>"your hard drive may be spinning harder as the
game reads from and writes to the hard disk. If your hd is the source of the
noise, get it replaced soon"<< sounds ominous, but could be the problem-so
I'm living on borrowed time, backing up onto DVD discs.
Hopefully I'll have more answers once I follow all the steps re cleaning and
checking!
As Gilda Radner would say, "It's always something"!!!
