Review of Outlook Messages Before Download

I am in the middle of migrating users to Outlook 2003. In Outlook 2K one of
the users was able to see how many messages were waiting form him in his
Exchange Inbox before they transfered to his .pst. In setting up Outlook 2K3
all messages are going directly to the .pst file. Is there anyway to allow
the user to see how many messages he has before downloading them? Thank you.

Why are you using PSTs with Exchange? You're destroying the ability to
share things properly, to have delegates, to see others' free/busy data, and
more.

First of all I agree with you 100%, but sometimes users have their own way
of thinking. This particular one travels frequently and filters his email by
client to a .pst for each client for archeive purposes. Because he is
sometimes forced to use dial-up service he does not want to download every
message to his laptop eveytime. As I stated before Outlook 2K allowed him to
view the number of messages in his Exchange Inbox before downloading them. In
Outlook 2K3 all messages are going straight to the .pst. We are using cached
Exchange mode if that is any help. I've gone through every setting I can find.

He should be using offline folders, then. Outlook would work identically
either in the office or on the road.

He can control the syncing with offlline folders.

Was he using a MAPI connection to Exchange before or something like IMAP to
the Exchange mailbox? On the Outlook 2000 systems here I don't see that
option anywhere.

I don't know if cached mode makes a difference. It should be easy enough to
check, though.
