Review of Ages of Empires 3 Demo installation program

Skybuck Flying

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen.

I wanted to play "Ages of Empires 3 Demo/Trial" but I didn't get any further
than the installation program lol.

So instead of reviewing the game/demo I will simply review the installation
program since that's more experienc with this game clearly made by retards ?

The free space before starting the installation program was:

Drive C: 500 MB of free space.
Drive E: 371 MB of free space.
Drive F: 1 GB of free space.

All windows temporarely files/folders/settings have been set to F:\Tempory
Folder\

I started the installation program which proceded to extract a 365 MB file
located in
f:\Temporary Folder\_is174\Age of Empires III Trial.msi and some other
little files as well.

Then it continued to run this file which extracted another *.msi file
located in

C:\Windows\Installer\17ba0c4.msi (357 MB)

(probably an automatically generated file name ?)

The installation program then complained there was not enough free space.

Available space claimed by program: 145.944 KB

Required space:366.409 KB

Which is in itself pretty confusing.

Then it had some extra listview which added to the confusion:

c:\ available: 142 mb required: 2mb difference: 139 mb
c:\ available: 371 mb required: 0mb difference: 371 mb
c:\ available: 673 mb required: 2mb difference: 671 mb

The program is clearly retarded and doesn't know jacksquat what it's doing.

It requires a lot more than 2 MB.... etc...

This is as far as I got with this installation program.

The title read: "InstallShield Wizard"

How about renaming that to: "InstallShield Retard"

Another title read: "Ages Of Empires III Trial Installation Wizard"

How about: "Ages Of Empires III Trial Installation Retard"

I am not sure who to blame.

I could blame InstallShield for writing corporate crapware.

I could blame microsoft for granting them a microsoft certification. Which
would mean: "congratulations it's certified corporate crapware".

In the end the makers of the game are probably to blame... who is that ?

Oh right microsoft lol =D hahahahahahahah how funny.

Well let's see:

365 MB for the zip file
365 MB for the executable
365 MB for the installer 2
357 MB for the installer 3

Wow 1452 of wasted space.

The zip file could be deleted so that would still require:

1087 space.

the installation program even complained it needed another 357 MB of free
space on drive C:

So the final space requirement to install this demo could be as much as:

1444 MB !!!! maybe even more ?!?!?!?!?!!!!

I actually discovered something else.

C:\windows\installer\ is full with junk from previous retarded installation
programs... like 300+ MB.

Even if I deleted that junk the demo would probably still not install !

Final conclusion: Microsoft has outdone itself in writing corporate craw
ware.

My rating:

10+ for retardedness
10+ for wasting space
10+ for wasting time
10+ for confusing installation program

The retardness is off the ****ing retardedness scale lol.

THIS CALLS FOR A BOYCOTT !!!!

I hereby ask all major gaming sites to boycott this demo and/or any future
retarded demo installation programs.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Ladies and Gentlemen.

The story is about to get worse.

I am now on an AMD Athlon 64 2600+ with 10 GB of free space on drive C:
and a cd rewriteable in the cd rom drive containing the installation
program. (windows xp home edition sp2)

Needless to say the (retarded) installation program failed to install
the game.

Error message: "1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting
Runtime"

Well I don't have much choice but to copy the executable to the c:
drive again. Thanks for wasting my time once again.

This will be my last installation attempt. So here goes:

Why am I not surprised that it didn't work ? Oh yeah I forgot (not)
it's a retarded installation program.

Same error message:

Error message: "1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting
Runtime"

It sure was one hell of an "experience" =D

Thank you microsoft for giving me and thousands of others a hell of an
"experience".

I am now officially done with this demo. It's going into the waste
basket.

I am kinda glad this demo did not work. It proves I was right alllll
along and this is just one hell of a retarded installation program.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Andrew

I got AOE III Demo Installed.

I have, Intel Pentium 4 2992MHz, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, 512MB RAM, 53Gb
Free Space, DVD RW+/-, CD RW+-.
Microsoft Windows XP SP2+, all updated drivers/WinUpdates installed.

Its so slow it takes 4 mins to move the mouse across the screen, changed all
settings to Minimum i.e. Graphics Low, textures Low, Music off.
And it makes no Difference what so ever. So I uninstalled it. and guess
what...? Unistaller left all the shortcuts..! Manually deleted the now
invalid shorcuts.

Thought I'd check out Microsoft Games Advisor:
(http://gameadvisor.futuremark.com/gameadvisor/service/) AOE III not even
on.
Why is that I wonder, Perhaps because its so slow its unplayable..?

so don't worry you're not missing anything at all.
Andrew
