Unable to install Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends trial/demo into

P

Phillip Pi

Hello!

I am having problems installing this trialware/demo version
(http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/2/b/92bc6ec9-a2d9-46bc-855d-61da496ef7e8/setup.exe)
onto my old Windows XP Pro. SP2 system. I only have about 800 MB free on
C: drive, so I tried to install into G: drive with 6 GB free. However,
the installer keeps saying I am out of disk space on C: drive and aborts
the installation.

I cannot free up anymore on C: (e.g., already moved pagefile.sys,
%temp%, uninstalled some softwares, compressed files and
folders/directories, etc.).

I don't think demos have product ID so I can't contact Microsoft about
this problem. MS' support on
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=ph;en-us;11188 didn't help at all. I
was unable to get anyone from Big Guge Games as well. :(

I wonder if I will still have this problem with the retail version too
(not that I will get it until I play the demo to see if I like it or not).

Hi Phillip Pi,

You asked:

The answer is that you'll be able to custom install the game to your
G: partition with the full version. I know this since I too have < 500 MB
free on C: and push my large installations out to a directory that I
don't worry about backing up, since the bits can easily be reinstalled. ;-)

PS: Say "Howdy" to Tony Weiss if you know him.
I've worked on many projects with him over the years.

Cool, but I really would like to try this trialware to be sure I like
the game or not. I managed to get 1.1 GB free on C: last night. I even
messed with Orca, copied MSI files into another drive, etc. Still can't
install it correctly (e.g., can't run MSI this way -- must run setup.exe
errors), etc.

I did find out that during the actual installation after selecting
options, C:\WINDOWS\Installer gets a big 700 MB MSI! No wonder I ran out
of disk space. I need to get this into another location. I couldn't copy
this MSI to install or else it complains that I didn't run its
setup.exe. Ugh! Sloppy testing here. :(

He doesn't work here anymore. He left many months ago. :(
