Retrieving e-mail folders in Windows Mail

My laptop crashed the other day and I had to do a system restore. Supposedly,
my files are stored in a backup folder on my hard drive. Windows mail is the
program that we are using for reading e-mails. After restoration I noticed
none of my e-mail files or e-mail folders were there. Is there a way to
retrieve them or are they gone?

It sounds like you did a System Recovery which returns the computer to
factory condition not a System Restore.
System Recovery deletes your files as well as any programs you installed.

I don't quite understand your statement "my files are stored in a backup folder."
In general, that won't be true unless you made a specific provision for backing
up data files.

You may be confusing it with the restore partition on which the manufacturer
stores the files needed to restore the laptop to factory condition.

Use File | Import to import messages from Windows Mail and navigate to this
backup folder.
