Restoring IE 6.0 as default browser-Firefox has taken over

I have tried the two usual methods of setting the default browser to Internet
Explorer to no avail:
1. At Tools|Internet Options|Programs and check "Internet Explorer should
check whether it is the default browser."
2. Use Control Panel | Folder Options to set the program opened by the file
extensions HTM, HTML, etc. to iexplorer.exe.

These file extensions all display the Internet Explorer icon.

Yet, many icons on the desktop display the FireFox icon.

Also, when I click on hyperlinks in my email program, FireFox opens, not
Internet Explorer.

I notice that most of the N/A "folder options," for example, URL:Hypertest
Transfer Protocol, URL:File Transfer Protocol," show the FireFox icon.

Probably, I have to edit something in the registry. What do I need to edit?

Hi,
In Firefox> Tools> Options> General, run the same "should check whether it
is the default browser" but answer No.

[WindowsXP] Control Panel> Add/remove programs> Set program access &
defaults"> make the appropriate
choices regarding "Default" and "Enable access."

Hope this helps,
