Hi,

I have just put a new larger HD in my laptop and with True Image, made an
image, then just restored it.

It boots okay to the Login panel.

When I log in (without a pwd which is how I have been doing it forever),
I see the 'Loading your files' panel for a second, then get the 'logging off'
panel.

I hear both Windows songs, logging in and logging off then it takes me back to
the Login panel and it all starts again.

Any help please?

I have XP Pro (Legit!)

Are you get a blue screen of death?

Please post copies of the Stop Error Reports.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

No I don't get that thank goodness!

I get the normal XPLogin Screen which just stops there with my name in it until
I hit the enter button as that is how I always did it. I am the administrator
and there are no other users.

It quickly shows the 'Loading your files"

then shows the 'logging off' then I hear the login song then a little later the
log off song then a little later I am back to the login screen again.

I tried the Safe Mode but I get the same problem as it shows a Login Screen and
the same thing happens so I can't get I to safe even.

I went looking for my XP CD but it was 2002 when I got it and haven't had to
use it since so up to now I haven't found it.

Any other ideas. There has to be a work around this!

Thanks

I do still have the original HD with the working XP on it, so maybe this will help?

Thanks

I did take the link to that Kelly site and it is amazing with all the help, but
I can't get access to the CD to make changes etc., so it seems hopeless.

I do have another CD for my wife,s XP, would I be able to use that to get to
the Recover screen?

Thanks

Well, I put the original HD into the external USB, plugged it in and started it.

To my surprise XP loaded from the external version. No choosing just went
straight to it in preference to the cloned one on the C drive in the laptop.

I am able to see the C drive and all the others now and was wondering if there
was anything I could do now that i have this access. Is there a file I can add
to the cloned version on the C drive?

There is obviously something missing in the cloned one for it to choose the
other external over it, correct?
