Hi,

If you restore it with a WinXP disk, why wouldn't it stay WinXP? However, I
suspect the restore is not what you need, as this does not cure problems
caused by spyware and viruses, which are the most common reasons a system is
slowed down.

For spy and ad programs, install and run these:

AdawareII www.lavasoft.de
Spybot www.safer-networking.org

From MVP Richard Harper on cleaning up malware infested systems:

For viruses, these:

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/8/lng/us/tpl/v5/nid/3001#3001

Also, you may use this free on-line scanner:

Many are best run in Safe mode to minimize interference. Most will resist
removal in normal mode where they are active.
