Windows XP Home Edition

When I start my Compaq Presario 2100 laptop, it goes thru the motions, then
opens to a blue "empty" page and stays there. So..I started the computer
using all options given, it stops everytime with:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows\system32\drivers\atisgkaf.sys and
stays there.

Please help or guide me where or to whom I should go to get my 2nd computer
working.

If stops during boot at:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows\system32\drivers\atisgkaf.sys

It doesn't surprise me because that line should be similar to:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP Professional" /noexecute=optin
/fastdetect

That's a line entry in your boot.ini which is used during boot. The entry you
provided is telling it to boot to a system driver, not the OS.

DO NOT USE the information in the first link below unless it is for your specific
make/model laptop. I simply picked one of the very many models listed in the second
link as a reference. If used on a model it is not intended for you may cause more
damage that could be costly.

From HP/Compq support site :
Windows XP Serious Error Referencing File Ati3d1ag.dll, Ati2dvag.dll or Ati2mtag.sys

First off, a little clarification would be helpful. When you say you "started
the computer using all options given", I'm guessing that you tried to start in
Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key when you restarted the laptop. Is that correct?

You then go on to say "it stops everytime with:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows\system32\drivers\atisgkaf.sys". Once
again, I'm guessing that you tried to start the laptop in Safe Mode and it ran
through the list of items Windows is trying to load and stops at
Windows\system32\drivers\atisgkaf.sys. Is that correct?

Did you try starting the laptop by selecting Enable VGA Mode? What happened when
you did that?

Did you try starting the laptop by selecting Last Known Good Configuration? What
happened when you did that?

Finally, did your laptop come with an actual XP installation CD?

Get back to me with answers to these questions and we'll go from there.

That is the last file that loaded successfully in Safe Mode. It is hanging
on the next file, not the one you see named on the screen. Do you have a MS
XP cd and if so which edition, Pro or Home? Or do you only have a recovery
cd or paratition?
