Restore "System Restore"?

Any idea how to restore the "System Restore" functionality
in XP? I recently had trouble with my pc, did a system
recovery and restored from a known good backup. But I
still am having a problem with the system restore utility.
I click on it, starts to open, then the error that comes
up refers to a missing .dll file.

Greetings

Try the following to solve your problem.

Disable and then re-enable the System Restore feature:

1. Click the Start menu -> Run. Type sysdm.cpl in the Open field. Click OK.
2. Click the "System Restore" tab.
3. Click to check the "Turn off System Restore on all drives" box, and click
OK.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Click the Start menu -> Run. Type sysdm.cp in the Open field. Click OK.
6. On the "System Restore" tab, remove the check mark from the "Turn off
System
Restore on all drives" box, and click OK.
7. Restart the computer again.
8. Check whether you can use the System Restore utility.

If that doesnt work, do the following.

1. In My Computer, click the Tools menu -> Folder Options.
2. On the View tab, make sure to check the option "Hide extensions for
known file types".
3. Click OK.
4. Click the Start menu -> Run. Type "%windir%\inf" (Without quotation
marks) in the Open field. Click OK.
5. Locate and select the file "sr.inf". Right-click it and then click
Install.

Yes.. I am recieving the error message you list. New
problem is that when I perform the first set of steps
below, there is not a tab for "System Restore" present. It
is missing.

The second option I recieve an error message also after
selecting "install" and cannot proceed further.

Can I perform the second part of this procedure from
the "sr.inf" file on the XP CD?

For some reason the "si.inf" file on my PC was corrupted
and would not perform the install. But I was able to grab
it off the XP CD and the instalation of System Restore was
succsessful. Only problem is now the only date present to
restore is today at the time of the install. It does not
go back any further. Is there a way to retrieve all the
earlier restore points that were once there before the
file corruption occured?
