Hello,
I have been religiously backing up (incremental backups) My Documents from a
computer with XP Pro using the Microsoft backup utility over the past several
months. That computer fried recently, and I am attempting to restore the
documents that were backed up nightly to another computer running XP (home).
When the restore process completes and I try to access the files, I get an
error that the resources are inaccessible (or something to that effect), and
it appears that while the first few levels of folder/hierarchy are present,
no file size is reported and no actual files seem to have been restored.
This is despite the fact that I watched the utility tick off the files and
file size that was being restore for the previous 15 minutes.
I get the same result even when I uncheck the box so that security settings
are not maintained upon restore.
Is the problem an incompatibility between a backup created with XP Pro and
trying to restore on XP Home?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Are there any third party
tools that can restore from Microsoft .bkp files?!
thanks,
Eric
