Restore from XP backup utility

Hello,

I have been religiously backing up (incremental backups) My Documents from a
computer with XP Pro using the Microsoft backup utility over the past several
months. That computer fried recently, and I am attempting to restore the
documents that were backed up nightly to another computer running XP (home).
When the restore process completes and I try to access the files, I get an
error that the resources are inaccessible (or something to that effect), and
it appears that while the first few levels of folder/hierarchy are present,
no file size is reported and no actual files seem to have been restored.
This is despite the fact that I watched the utility tick off the files and
file size that was being restore for the previous 15 minutes.

I get the same result even when I uncheck the box so that security settings
are not maintained upon restore.

Is the problem an incompatibility between a backup created with XP Pro and
trying to restore on XP Home?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Are there any third party
tools that can restore from Microsoft .bkp files?!

thanks,
Eric

I always backed up my previous laptop running XP pro on a dedicated external
drive.

1st a full backup, then incrementally, after always selecting the whole
c drive in advanced that lets you select what to back up.

Now I need to go back into that computer and restore the data in
some accounting software for my home business that saves the Pervasive
database files in the folders for each company (you can run multiple
companies) in labeled folders (it's not hidden elsewhere). Every time I try
to select and restore those files, either the system hangs while trying to
create a restore point, or I get a warning that the file is not found or
doesn't exist. Hard to believe, since I always use the verify option, and
every .bkf incremental backup that was added to the existing backups (I
select that option in advanced), and all can be found using explorer on that
drive, and it was only used with that computer. I've wasted all day trying to
get the data reset to anytime since my last work in that program in April of
'04 and when I made some irreversible errors this morning. Any help would be
greatly appreciated....
