I want to restore my factory setting on my pc. How do I go about it?

Which is it you wish to do Kevin? Try and solve the slow startup, or
completely restore XP? How much RAM do you have? Have you scanned your
PC for malware/adware/viruses? Do you have the right drivers for your
hardware? Are there any warnings/errors showing up in your Event Viewer?
To do that, go to Start -> All Programs -> Administrative Tools ->
Event Viewer.
You gotta let us know what you have or we can't help you much. :<)

If i can solve the slow startup that would be good.
I have a pentium(R) 4 cpu3.20ghz
3.19ghz 1.00gb of ram
xp home edition version 2002
computer has been fully scanned with norton 2006 version.
all the drivers were factory installed, have had the pc for a 14 months with
no problems. It all seemed to start when i dowloaded media player 11. deleted
11 and restored to 10 but the problems still there.
The only errors in event veiwer are:
fault bucket 290934068 &
crypt 32 failed extract.

Nice system. The next step would be to check your system with a couple
of free spyware scanners: AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy. Both of
which are readily available on the web. AdAware can be found at
www.lavasoft.com and Spybot at www.spybot.info. Both of these will scan
for anything that shouldn't be on your computer and allow you to remove
what you want. Both are very good at what they do.
The other thing you can do is see what is loading up at boot-time. Go
to Start -> Run and type MSCONFIG. This will bring up a screen with
several tabs on it. Click the Startup tab and take a look at all the
checked items. Try to identify what each one is and what it does on
your system. If you find anything that you don't recognize (or don't
want) uncheck it. When you get done, you will have to reboot. After
you reboot, you will get a popup telling you that you have used the boot
configuration program. Check the little box that says "Don't show this
again" and click OK.
Your startup delay could be the result of something that is starting due
to malware (which the scanners should take care of) or in the startup
group (which MSCONFIG should take care of).

I also meant to add that no driver changes in 14 months might also be
the clue here. I check for new drivers about once a month - and - I
usually find at least one that needs updating in at least one of my
computers.
When you say you "deleted" Media Player 11 - do you mean you uninstalled
it, or just deleted the folder it was in?

Using Norton products tend to leave many users disatisfied with system.
I would ditch it one month before the subscription is due to expire and
opt for a freeware combination which give you the protection you need
and better system performance.
How large is your hard disk and how much free disk space?
Select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp,
More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System
Restore point.
Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports please.

Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When esearching the meaning of
the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are
important.
