Windows 2000 Server w/ SP4. After successfully connecting two (2)
external hard disk drives via USB 2.0 for data backup (which works
just fine), I have found that server restarts result in an "unstable"
restart. The main symptom is that when I login as Administrator, all
of the desktop icons fail to appear. If the machine is restarted
without the USB drives connected, all seems well. I would like to
correct this situation. Any ideas? Tnx!

This may be caused by the USB drive enclosures. I have some
that work perfectly well, and others that cause the PC to hang
during the early boot phase, well before Windows starts. I would
try some different enclosures.

Thanks! Which enclosures do you have that work OK? The ones I am
using are ADS Technologies USB 2.0 Hard Drive Kit enclosures, Model
USB X-835.

I have dozens of CoolMax USB 2.0 enclosures in use and none have ever caused
a problem. I have had problems as you described, but with other enclosures.

I DO NOT work for Coolmax ... just a happy customer.
