Like many XP users had the problem of it restarting instead of
shutting down. After trying several of the suggestions I found on
this newsgroup, nothing worked. I did, however, get an idea from
another post. In case you're one of the tormented, this seems to have
worked for me.
Control Panel -> Power Options -> APM (tab) -> clear box next to
Enable Advanced Power Management Support
The idea came from another posting which said to enable APM, but since
APM was already enabled on my computer, I thought I would try
disabling it. After 3 or 4 shut downs, it seems to have worked.
