Sound problem with Realtek'97 - Windows XP - Asus SLI Motherboard with
onboard sound system

I was listening to some music using Winamp. I unplugged the sound jack
to move my stereo, and it never worked again after plugging back the
jack in. What was really weird is that the sound worked perfectly at
windows startup, and windows closing. I tried the following, but it did
not work for me:

* tried to use the front speaker out connectors
* reinstalled the drivers coming with the mobo
* installed the latest drivers from realtek
* played with jumpers on the mobo

I spent more time on various forum reading about related issue, and I
finally found something that worked:

Using nVidia nForce sound drivers instead of Realtek. From what I read,
it works for all windows versions, and uses less CPU

1. Download nForce audio windows vista drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/licen...ta/beta1/4.64_nForce_winvista_audio_32bit.zip
2. Completely uninstall/remove AC 97 drivers using Control Panel -> Add
or Remove programs
3. Restart Computer
4. When windows detects the sound card, point to the specific location,
where you downloaded the nForce audio drivers

Worked perfectly for me
