requesting virus scan

Everytime I open an Excel document, I have to wait about
60 seconds while a virus scan is requested. My computer
is not online and I want to disable this function. Does
anyone know if I have to adjust Excel or the virus
protection. I already disabled the virus protection and
the problem still exists. Somebody please help.

Hi Steve!

Since you said, "I already disabled the virus protection
and the problem still exists.", this might not apply, but
you may want to double check.

If you're using NAV for virus protection, there is a
setting that initiates the virus scan. I use the combined
NIS 2003 application. This setting can be found in
Options>Norton AntiVirus>Other>Misc>Enable Office Plug-in.

I might add that I have this option enabled and on my
machine it takes less than 5 seconds for the scan but the
scan time would depend on the number and size of add-ins
that you have enabled.
