Automatic Virus Scanning

R

RifRaf

I was wondering.

When I installed a virus protection package, Excel
(actually all of Office) automatically generates this
message in the status bar: requesting virus scan.
Even when I (supposedly) uninstall the virus protection
software, Excel continues to attempt to scan the workbook
(s)! This can take up to a few seconds, especially on
very large workbooks.

Is there any way (registry included) to disable this auto-
scan function?

Thanks!

I realized I didn't give better information.

No Add-In's are selected.

I use AVG Free Edition. Recall that I uninstalled and
used a great registry cleaner (orphans, widows) to make
sure no tracve of it existed.

*Still* it persists. I know it cannot be a remnant AVG
entry because no other file ever is scanned. This happens
in all Office products.

It's highly annyoing on my mega-workbooks as they exceed
100 MB (and yes, all cells used are Excel-utilized). :/

AVG does not have a virus checker plugin for Office at least if it does, I dont
have it enabled. What level do you have Macro security set on?

The requesting virus scan sounds like Norton AV Office Addin -- Has Norton ever
been installed on your system?

Interesting. Under Macro -> Security it says, "Virus
Scanner Installed". There isn't *ANY* on my computer.
