I will be installing a new server to take the place of an
existing W2K DC. It is the only DC in my clients
environment. We will retire the original DC. I know I
need to move the Global Catalogue to the new server. What
other "gotcha's" do I need to be aware of? Any ideas on
this matter is greatly appreciated.

You must transfer all the FSMO roles.

If you are an an active directory setup (unlikely with just 1 DC), just add
the new DC, replicate, and shut down the original.

If you are in PDC/BDC emulation, add the new DC as a BDC, replicate, shut
down the PDC, and promote the BDC to PDC.
