Everytime there is a new update, I always have to uninstall and reinstall
windows defender, then go to windows update, in order to get the newer
version. Whenever there is a new update, I try to go to Windows Update
first, then update it, but it keeps saying that its installed. But it keeps
showing up on the windows update list, even after i install it, over and over
again. Can anyone help me, cuz i dont want to keep checknig for newer
versions every couple of days.

I have a similar problem since reloading the operating system (winxp home) --
the diiference being that I keep getting the request to update even after
updating and checking that the update has been installed. My solution is the
same -- uninstall and reinstall then update. -- Before downloading I have
ensured that my system is totally clean of Windows Defender. Can anyone
provide a solution to this.

Hi in order for me to update my windows defender I have to go to add and
remove programs go to windows defender and then change and then it will
update see if this helps.

I'm having the same problem. Defender checks for definition updates, then
says it can't find any. The last successful definition upgrade was 05/01/2006.

Doing a change from Add/Remove didn't help. My other XP is automatically
staying current with the definitions.
