Repairing Windows XP

Martin

I have Windows XP Home and i have tried to login all day yesterday and today
but Windows keeps on logging me out. I have been using the internet all
afternoon yesterday until the internet downloaded a antivirus programme which
i don't use. The anitivirus programme that the internet installed on my
system is called MS Antivirus 2009. I have tried to access Windows XP by
normal and safe mode but it doesn't want me to login.

Is there a way that i can repair Windows XP Home but keep all my stuff on
the drive?

MS Antivirus 2009 is malware. Your system has been infected. Meanwhile,
the letters MS do not mean that Microsoft wrote it.

What I would do is to boot my system with the BartPE disk which I created
some time ago for just this situation. This disk happens to have Acronis
True Image loaded on it.

So, I would boot BartPE (it is loaded on a CD hence the virus can't infect
it very easily), and recover what I could using ATI.

Then, I would whip out my system backup and restore it.

If the computer goes through a repeated login/logout cycle it often means
that the userinit.exe file in the system32 folder is damaged or missing, or
that its registry entry in the winlogon registry key has been changed by
malware to point at an impostor file.

If the latter, fixing this is quite tricky as it has to be done from a
bootable CD (WinPE/BartPE) using remote-registry tools.

Hi Tim

Yes i did try "Last Known Good" but it kept on doing the same. I think that
the file userinit.exe was damaged or missing, or the winlogon registry key
has been changed. If i be available to fix the file if i used my windows xp
cd.

One question? What is the XWR14021.DLL. It is coming on my brothers pc
saying that it is a Trojan Virus. Is were a wasy that i can fix it?

Thanks

Martin

BartPE is a CD based system which provides you with a means to fix things
which render Windows unbootable. It also has addons for Acronis True Image
(and perhaps Ghost, I do not know) and ntbackup. I can't remember the
website, but all you need to do is search for BartPE in the internet.
