Repairing Sick XP :(

i hope this question isn't to technical for this forum. I'm in a littl
distressed at the moment. I have a installation of windows xp on
partition that is very sick. I would like to do a repair install usin
the xp install cd, but the OS can not be detected to be repaired
Possibly because xp system files are currupted?
So I was wondering if anyone knew the critical system files that at ar
used by xp to boot and be recognized as an operating system.
I hope this isn't too confusing. thanks for any hel
