Repair Installation XP

Guest

I thought my problem was fixed regarding repeated WPA until I turned my
computer on, I was again asked to do Windows Product activation.

WTC suggested to do Repair Installation of XP. Where do I go for the repair
installation of XP where service pack 2 has been downloaded?

Before you try this, could you do this first

Look in your registry by start>run and enter

regedit

go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and post your results, could be in the start up configuration.

Hi Marta

If you want to perfrom a 'Repair' install of XP SP2, you will have to create
an SP2 slipstreamed CD first:

You can download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en -
or if you have a copy of the SP2 CD, you can copy the xpsp2.exe file from
that CD onto your hard disk/partition and use that:

then follow the directions in the following article to create a slipstreamed
XP CD:

http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?action=show&showarticle=49

The following article by Michael Stevens will help you with a 'Repair'
install:

"How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install"

To William:
I went to the files you mentioned and here are the results:
HKCU:
Name: NvMedia Center Type: REG_SZ
Data: RUNDLL.EXE C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\NVMCTRAY.DLL, NvTaskbarInit

HKLM:
Run Once: Default Data: Value not set
Run Once Ex: Default Data: Value not set

Thanks in advance for bearing with me.

To Will Denny,
Thank you for the reply as well.

Is there any harm if I decide not to do Repair Installation at all and just
bear with the repeated WPA each time I turn my computer on?

I am not sure, has this been doing this for 30 days or more? Usually XP will
not let you do anything if you do not activate after 30 days.

do you have anything in your startup folder that may be causing this.
Start>All Programs>Startup

and in your msconfig there is a startup process also. Start>Run and enter
msconfig, then go to the "StartUp" Tab. Could you post your results from
msconfig?

I don't think it's been 30 days.
In my Start>All Programs>Startup: there's HotSync Manager and ViaRaidTool.

In Start>Run and enter
msconfig, then go to the "StartUp" Tab:
NvCpl-RUNDLL32-HKLMSOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVER
nwiz-nwiz.exe-install-HKLMSOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVER
ccApp-C:\ProgramFiles\Com-

HKLMSOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVER

Sorry, I accidentally posted my reply. To continue:

NVMCTRAY-RUNDLL32-HKCUSOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVER

I was helping another individual with the same problem, he performed a
repair installation. He claimed it worked.

I do not know what to do. If you try a repair installation. Could you post
back your results.

Good Luck

This is what he posted:

"I tried doing a "Repair", but don't think it did anything. ReBooted to
"F-8" and selected load last sucessful. It took about five minutes to load,
but appears to be working ok now. Am keeping my fingers crossed. Many
thanks for the help"

If I do try a Repair installation, will surely post back the results. It
just seems very tedious and complicated to me. I'll think about it. Thank
you and will let you know what happens.

I might have found something for you regarding your problem. A corrupted dll
file. You can fix this by

start>run and type

regsvr32 regwizc.dll

then ok

Post back if this works, thanks.
