renaming system folders

I have been given a computer to use from a friend. He said I can customize
it to my liking. How do I change the names of system folders from his name
to mine?

You can't, create a new account.

To open the User Accounts tool, open Control Panel from the Start menu, and
then double click User Accounts.

To Create a New User Account
1. Click Create a new account in the Pick a task list box.
2. Type the name that you want to use for the account, and then click Next.
3. Select the desired account type, and then click Create Account.

Create a new user.
Start using that user instead.

The user profile folders (C:\Documents and Settings\Username) _cannot_
be renamed, even if the associated user account has been. So, your best
course of action would be to log on using the built-in Administrator
account, create a new user account, with the username desired. You can then
delete the old user account(s).

However, With a second-hand computer, especially if acquired from
strangers but sometimes even if acquired from a family member or friend,
your wisest course of action would probably be to format the hard drives and
start fresh. You don't want to get in trouble because the original owner
may have filled the hard drive with kiddie porn, or have problems because
the original owner downloaded/installed viruses or other malware.
