removing virus on frozen computer

Jon

Hi,

I have the win32.pinfi virus on my laptop (HP ze1210, XP)
The computer is forzen stiff, nothing will respond, at
startup i get a "userinit.exe error" My OS is fried.
Only keys that respond are ctrl/alt/del. Even then task
manager wont run. Safe mode, etc, cancelling system
restore... no dice. I am going to try and run Panda's
parite b tool, and I am wondering how I can run it if my
computer is frozen.. Can I copy the program to a CD, then
boot from that..(don't have floppy drive) If anyone could
give me info on how to run this tool on a non-responding
desktop, i would appreciate it,
Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,

Doug has a zip file that will help you gain access to the Task Manager
somewhere on his site: http://www.dougknox.com/ called: Emergency
Msconfig, Regedit, Task Manager.

Once that is done, clear your runkeys of the worm/virus.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

And/or whatever the proper removal process is. Good luck!
