Need help to remove virus

Hi,
A few weeks ago while running a routine norton virus scan,
my laptop (HP ze1210,XP) froze, leaving only a desktop
with wallpaper, minus all icons. Everytime I re-boot, it
asks me to log in (never did this before?) and when the
wallpaper appears, a window pops up saying "userinit.exe
error, ok to close application?" When I press ok, the
computer remains frozen on the desktop (minus icons,)
nothing will run; every program I try to initialize gives
me an error message, including task manager. I have re-
booted my computer in every way possible (safe-mode,
etc.), without any luck. After doing some resarch I have
established that I have the win32.pinfi virus. I have been
told that a tool called parite b. from Panda Software can
perhaps help. However, I am wondering how I can run the
program on my computer. I can't run/open anything as of
this moment. I get errors for everything, and the only
keys which respond are ctrl/alt/del (task manager does not
run though) My laptop will also not run CD's. It is
basically a frozen piece of plastic and metal with a color
screen. So, I was wondering if anyone could tell what to
do... is it possible to boot my computer from a cd with
the parite b. tool on it??
Thanks for all the help,
Jon

Do you have a floppy drive? If so, what about making a boot floppy form
another machine and running the fix tool from floppy?

Try searching for "bootable cd" in this group. You should be able to make a
bootable cd and put the fix tool on it as well and run what you were
originally asking about.
