Removing uncessary fonts

T

The Old Fart

For years now every time that I open an application that requires fonts
I get a list that include windings & all sorts of other non conventional
fonts that I have never ever used and expect that I never will.

Is it save just to delete them so as to not have to scroll through the
list every time I'm looking for a real font?

Interesting question. (ignoring your obvious typo '..is it SAVE...?' instead
of ''..is it SAFE...?'' , ... only an idiot would intentionally misunderstand
that ;)

There are so many apps that are 'default' installs for Windows, and a lot of
them use intentionally specific fonts. Usually there are several
'alternative' fonts stipulated, but not always, especially in terms of web
pages.

There are provisions in place in the case of web pages that offer downloads
of unavailable fonts on the local system, which must be intentionally
disabled ('download on demand' in IE options), so called '??.eol' files.

There are terminal fonts ...'fixedsys', equation fonts, 'symbol'..., and a
host of others. The question is not, 'can I limit my drop box list of
choices', half as much as the question, 'do I want to limit my system's
versatility'.

I would not wish to criticize the efficiency of eliminating the
'superfluous', but rather speak up for the power of versatility.
