Removing Norton Antivirus

I bought my laptop a year or so ago and it came pre packed with Norton
Anti Virus. There are no uninstall tools, I cannot remove it through
remove/install in Windows . Norton has run out of my test period and I
didnt want it anyway, but I cannot get rid of the damn thing any ideas
how I can do this as I want to purchase an alternative but need to
remove this before I do?

I am running Explorer 7 on Windows XP

Apologies I am not really a techie person

There should certainly be a removal icon in the Add/Remove programs section,
but if there isn't, Symantec does make manual removal tools. You can
google "Norton Removal Tool" or go here:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...ew=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=&seg=

which is also this:

Download the tool and run it, and it should remove all traces of the NAV
version on your system.

I'd suggest dowloading the free version of AVG before you do this, so that
you can immediately re-install.

Once that is installed, immediately connect to the internet and check for
updates.

Thank you so much both of you, its been driving me crazy! It must be
some sort of trick to more or less force you to purchase the thing
which is unfair, I think anyway.

I was using Talk Talk own anti virus and firewall but their service is
so bad, when the expirary date arrived it took me 4 days to manage to
get through to someone, to be on hold for 45 mins to be then told we
can give you a call back which I thought was great until they said it
would be in 7 days and we cannot confirm what time, I would guess it
would be when I am at work and not in front of my PC so decided to not
continue with their firewall and anti virus, get rid of Norton purely
becuase its being pushed at me and try for something else

Thanks guys
