Hi
No matter what i try (add/remove, regcleanxp etc), i cannot remove all trace
of Norton from my pc. Therefore, when i want to re-install, my old
subscription details are still present. I have seen a nifty little norton
remover prog on the net, but cant find it any more. Any ideas please?

What version? If Norton 2004/2005, Symantec has updated the activation
database, and corresponding update software to remember a) The hardware hash
of the 1st PC installed (like WinXP) and b) to remember the first date your
Product Key was activated. Bottom line, you'll have to "renew" your
subscription to continue to get updates automatically. I've seen the
program you've spoken, but now it has been rendered useless by the above
changes - I noticed this flaw a few years back, being a software developer,
I routinely format/clean install my OS/software about every 3-6 months and I
noticed NAV/NSW activation would always be 1 year from the date I installed,
but now the last time, it still had the original installation date of NSW
2005 back in September 04 - not to mention, it stated I had a different OS.
The first installation was XP SP2, but I installed SP2 after NSW 2005 was
installed/activated, this time, XP SP2 was slipstreamed and installed, then
NSW installed and I tried to activate - bottom line, Symantec support told
me to reinstall XP SP1, install NSW 2005 and activate, then install SP2 to
have it work - I said no, they needed to give me activation as no
hardware/software had changed, they refused - needless to say, I changed to
AVG for antivirus (the full version $70 US for 2 year subscription and 2
licenses) and to other and actually less intrusive software packages for
defragging and registry cleaning - JVtools or something or another. See how
Corporate America treats dedicated customers, I've been using
Norton/Symantec products since WFW 3.11, and poof, screw you, either buy
another or reinstall the way we say.
