Remove Photos from Wallpaper List without deleting or moving them?

All of a sudden, my system is picking up photos from my HD and adding them to
the list of available Wallpaper for XP SP2. I have used photos as wallpaper,
however, in the past, whenever I changed it, the photo disappeared from the
list. The ones that are now appearing in the list were never used as
wallpaper. I don't want to delete them and for convenience sake would like
to keep all my photos together if possible. My file structure is such that
all photos except one are in sub-folders of My Documents/My Pictures. When I
move a photo out of the ...My Photos folders it does disappear from the list,
however, there are many and then organization becomes a problem

The system has had a long-term problem, which no one has been able to solve,
in that unless I actually copy a photo to C:/Windows/Web/Wallpaper, it will
not display as wallpaper. I have also tried the fix #144 at Kellys-korner to
remove the MRU to no avail. Additionally, earlier today, I couldn't set any
wallpaper and after searching this site and deleting some registry entries,
it is functional again, however, as mentioned, I have to add the photo to the
wallpaper folder to work.

This isn't a major deal as the system is functional otherwise, however, I'm
afraid that if something is missing or corrupted, it may lead to other issues.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Actually your system is working as designed. You need to move your
pictures out of the My Pictures folder in My Documents. There should be
no problem with organization; simply create a new folder in My Documents
- but not in My Pictures - and call it something like "Pictures". Within
that new folder you can create as many other folders as you like for
organizing your files. This is the way Windows works. Then when you want
to use one of your pictures as a Desktop background, click the "Browse"
button in the Display applet and browse to the desired picture in the
new folder you made.

As for the second part of your question, please do this:

Go to the Display applet in Control Panel and look on the Desktop tab.
Click on Customize Desktop, and then click on the Web tab. You will see
that there are checkmarks next to "My Current Home Page" and probably
"Lock Desktop Items". Uncheck these, Apply/OK out.

Malke,

Thanks so much for your reply.

From the research I've done on other threads, I kind of knew the answer was
to move the pictures out of My Pictures, but was trying to avoid that. Its
puzzling why, after all these years that this is the first time this problem
has occurred, however, if there's no other choice, so be it!

I tried the second part of your answer, however, neither of the boxes was
checked, so am still at a loss as to why I must add the photo to the
Wallpaper folder.

Thanks again.

I don't know the answer to your question. I'd have to look at the
machine and since I can't do that, I'm afraid I'll have to just say I'm
sorry that I was unable to help you with that problem.
