I have struggled for a week to solve the problem but with no success,
though I have checked the threads on the topic in this forum.

I have two computers (one PC, one laptop) both with XP pro SP2. I can
connect to laptop from PC but not from laptop to PC! Bad luck, the PC
is new and powerfull and was supposed to be ran remotely from the
laptop (on my home LAN).
Thanks in advance for any help.

I forgot: I can ping each machine both ways.

No details given.

We could assume you have turned on the proper services, assigned passwords
to accounts, opened the proper ports, etc... But it would be better if you
told us a narrative of what you have done to set this up so far...

Barring additional information from you at this point...

http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.org/RemoteDesktop/RemoteDesktopSetupandTroubleshooting.html

That web page should help you ensure you have everything up and running as
needed.

Hi All,
Finally found the solution: many thanks to Shenan Stanley and Brad
Rutkowski (http://blogs.technet.com/brad_rutkowski/archive/2008/01/04/
systemroot-system32-rdpdd-dll-failed-to-load.aspx)

I found the solution having a look at ctrl panel / admin tools / event
viewer (local) / system where I could see the following error:
\SystemRoot\System32\RDPDD.dll failed to load
Then I found Brad's solution, adding the following key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
\Memory Management]
"SessionImageSize"=dword:00000020

I hope this will help others ...

PhilEthicus,

I'm glad you found a solution and I am appreciative that you came back and
took the time to post what you ended up doing! Although it wasn't exactly
my answer that fixed you up - I hope I didn't waste your time in having you
go through all of that. :)

Again - fantastic that you are up and running again and thank you so much
for following up!
